Field Hockey: Dexter falls 1-0 to Saline in state semifinal game

The Dexter field hockey team allowed just one goal in the team’s biggest game of the season but one was enough for the Saline Hornets.

Saline won one of the MHSFH Division 1 semifinal games on Thursday night, holding off the talented Dexter Dreadnaughts 1-0 to advance to the finals.

Erin Reilly, off an assist from Devin Reilly, scored a first-half goal for the Hornets. It turned out to be the only goal of the night.

In the other semifinal, the Huron field hockey team took a big step – their biggest yet – to defending their state title by knocking off perennial state power and city rival Pioneer 2-0 on Thursday in the other MHSFH state semifinal.

Huron’s Allison Sabb, who recently scored her 100th goal for the River Rats, opened the scoring in the first half with an assist from her sister, Megan Sabb. Allison scored again in the first half, on an unassisted goal, at 8:05 to make it 2-0.

The River Rats will play the Hornets in the championship game at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Dexter.

The finals is a match between the No. 1 seed Hornets and the No. 2 seed River Rats.

Both semifinal games were played at Saline.
