Girls D-1 Cross Country: Skyline’s O’Brien, Huron’s Hastie qualify for state finals


Skyline finished sixth overall at the Division 1 Regionals at Huron Meadows Metropark in Brighton on Saturday. The Eagles finished with 172 points on a cold and rainy day. Pinckney was first (29) followed by Brighton (86) and Howell (130).

Skyline sophomore Laura O’Brien is headed to the state finals after finishing sixth overall with a time of 19:05.5. The top 15 individuals qualify for the state finals.
Catrin Koselka, another sophomore, finished 23rd in 20:10.9 while junior Maggie Schmidt went 20:26.3 to finish 29th.

Freshman Caitlyn Donnelly was 51st in 20:52.1, senior Lillian Peck was 63rd in 21:25.2 and junior Arielle Melong was 72nd in 21:53.6.


The River Rats ran eighth overall at the Division 1 Regional at Willow Metropark on Saturday. Huron finished with 213 points in the 13-team field. Northville finished first with 41 points followed by Salem (64) and Plymouth (91).

Huron’s Callie Hastie didn’t want her career to end and it won’t. The senior ran a time of 19:08.7 to take 14th and make the cut for the state finals.

Sophomore Sam Hastie was 33rd (20:22.8) and junior Helena Helme was 35th (20:24.8).

Also running well for Huron were sophomore Verena Wu (66th, 22:17.2), sophomore Zoe Solomon (67th, 22:19.8), freshman Mari Park (68th, 22:29.6), sophomore Morelia Rosas-Martinez (77th, 21:31.5) and freshman Amanda Xu (82nd, 24:06.3).
