St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea receives “A” grade for patient safety

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assigns A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationally for having the highest safety standards, announced that St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea received an “A” ranking on its Fall 2018 scorecard.  This is the thirteenth “A” ranking for the hospital.

Of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded this year, 32 percent earned an “A,” 24 percent earned a “B,” 37 percent a “C,” 6 percent a “D” and less than 1 percent an “F.”

“We are thrilled to be among the top 32 percent of hospitals nationally that earned an ‘A’ grade for patient safety,” said Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea.  “Our scorecard reflects our commitment to our patients and to achieving the best possible outcome for them.”

Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to U.S. hospitals twice per year.  The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

St. Joe’s was one of 855 across the United States awarded an A in the Fall 2018 update of grades.  To see St. Joe’s full grade details, and to access patient tips for staying safe in the hospital,
