City Seeking Candidates for Housing Task Force

Dexter City Council formed a Housing Task Force at their Monday, Nov. 12, meeting and is seeking 4 community members to serve on the committee.

The City Council set the goal of making the City of Dexter accessible to a wider range of income brackets earlier this year and the idea of a Task Force with community involvement was conceived. The purpose of the Housing Task Force is to conduct research and present findings to the City Council for additional study or action. The committee has no decision-making authority.

Duties of the Housing Task Force include:

  • Inventory existing housing stock in the City of Dexter.
  • Identify housing needs for the City of Dexter.
  • Identify and research housing case studies of other communities.
  • Research strategies to address missing housing needs and affordable housing.
  • Identify opportunities to partner with other entities and incentives to help address any housing needs.
  • Present findings to Council.
  • Other duties, as requested by Council.

The Housing Task Force will be a 7-member committee chosen by the City Council. It will consist of 2 Council members, 1 planning commissioner, and 4 at-large community members representing areas such as business, real estate, schools, etc.

The Task Force term would run for roughly one year, through the end of calendar year 2019 but may be extended at the Council’s discretion. While the position itself is on a volunteer basis, members will be provided with staff support to assist with research, distribution of materials, arrangement of meeting venues, etc.

Interested candidates are asked to complete and submit a Committee Application Form, which is available on the City’s website at: http://dextermi.gov/sites/dextermi.gov/files/client_files/forms/committee_application_2018_11.pdf.

Completed forms should be submitted to Courtney Nicholls, Dexter City Manager, no later than Friday, November 30, 2018 at 5:00 pm via email to CNicholls@dextermi.gov
