Dexter Community Schools Board of Education will begin holding “community chats.” Board members will be available for informal conversation with Dexter School District residents.
The move comes from a desire by the Board to be more accessible after receiving requests from the public, at different times, in different places, to have a chance to speak one-on-one with Board members. Regular BOE meetings do have two places on the agenda for the public to speak, but rules prevent the Board from responding while in the meeting.
The conversations will be informal and it is important for folks to understand that no single board member can speak on behalf of the assembled, collective Board body. The conversations are designed to clarify, inform, and listen.
Conversation hours will take place 6:00 – 7:00 pm prior to the first board meeting of each month in the Creekside Intermediate School Media Center.
Tentative dates for the current school year are Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Feb. 11, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, May 6, and Jun. 10. It is recommended those wishing to talk with Board members check the District calendar for any changes in time, date, or place.
