The Skyline girls’ basketball team kicked off the season with three convincing wins in the Thanksgiving Holiday scrimmages in Dearborn Heights this past weekend.
The team is led by a strong junior class consisting of captains Janee and Renee Faulkner, Alaina Heetderks, Ariel Melong, and captain Cammi Tirico. This junior class has been the backbone of Coach Johnnie Horme’s program since they arrived three years ago.
Sophomores guards Chala House and Blessing Batalog and center Clare Salata are new contributors to the varsity squad and are expected to make a big impact.
Rounding out the team are freshmen Maya Wooley and Martina Sanchez, who both should see lots of action for the Eagles.
The team looks to improve upon last year’s record, but faces some strong competition in the SEC and outside conference play. They will look to use their speed on defense and transition play to compensate for their lack of height inside.
They are off to a good start with wins of 61-11, 33-18 and 41-9 in Dearborn Heights this weekend.
The JV squad will kick off their season with scrimmages next weekend.
