After Dark, Hustle, Parade, Open House, All This Weekend in Dexter

I supposed if we added enough verses to The Twelve Days of Christmas we could eventually get to “twelve-hundred runners running.”

That’s exactly what’s happening Saturday, Dec. 8, here in Dexter with the annual Holiday Hustle 5K and 1 mile run/walk. The running starts from Monument Park at 4:00 pm for the 1 mile and 4:30 pm for the 5K. Throngs of runners will be visiting our popular little town. Keep in mind some streets will be closed for a bit before and after the gathering, but this year there is a special event afterwards.

Small Town Holiday Parade: Saturday, Dec. 8, 6:00 pm. The Chamber also heads up Dexter Daze each year and part of the festivities is the parade. The same folks, led by Chamber member Tracy Lambert, have added the task of organizing a holiday parade to their checklist of holiday busy-ness. (Thank you Tracy & Co). A little elf told me the “real” Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be riding through. Parade floats and folks will be lit up, with Christmas lights. Speaking of “lit up”, Aubree’s will be unveiling “Not Your Grandma’s Hot Cocoa.” If running the Holiday Hustle doesn’t warm you up, try that.

But on the night before running, all through our town, people will be stirring and hanging around.

Dexter After Dark:  Friday, Dec 7. For several years now downtown businesses have participated in Dexter After Dark. Participating merchants will have a while balloon attached to their door to signify they are staying open into the evening offering store specials as well as refreshments. There is lots of cool stuff to be had. For example, check out Boxwood Cottage – Mishelle Lamarand Photography will be on-site taking complimentary photos. The Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing this year’s event.

A big “Thank You” to the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce for organizing and promoting these two community events in Dexter where we live, learn, play, and prosper. The Chamber is growing and looks forward to continued community support of events like this. If you would like to learn more about the Chamber and what it offers to support local businesses, visit their website at https://www.dexterchamber.org/

We should also take a moment to welcome one of our newer businesses – Proven Kitchen & Bath who will be having their grand opening open house all day Saturday. So if your toes get cold waiting for the runners, you can walk them over to the new store next to Cottage Inn. You’ll find lots of interesting home décor. There is a photo booth in operation now until Christmas for a free photo.

Enjoy your weekend!
