LANSING — Yesterday, legislative leaders rushed through House Bill 6553 to allow the Legislature an absolute right to intervene in court proceedings, effectively undermining the power of the attorney general’s office and ignoring the will of the voters who elected Attorney General-elect Nessel last month. In response to its passage, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:
“Michigan deserves leaders who will rise above politics and embrace collaboration to make government work for the people it serves. I’m here to solve the real problems facing my community, like the need to strengthen dioxane standards, lower health care costs and make sure our drinking water is safe. I was not sent to the Capitol to undermine the will of the people or dismantle our democratic institutions, and I don’t intend to start now.”
