Swimming: Pioneers make big splash in season opener

 

The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team opened the season last weekend at the 72nd annual Cereal Bowl Relays at Battle Creek Central High School. The Pioneers finished first with a dominating performance.

Pioneer finished first in eight relay events to start the season off with a lot of gold.

Pioneers’ winning relays included diving (Ben Egelhof & Cole Tremewan); 200 breast (Vaughn Hajra, Samuel Fonte, Anthony Gibbons, Henri Schneehagen); 500 free (Trent Hitchins, Alex Farmer, Matt Segal, Shashank Chandru, Henri Schneehagen); 400 IM (Luis Miranda, Samuel Fonte, Vaughn Hajra, Anthony Gibbons); 200 back (Cam Williston, Caleb Rice, Alex Farmer, Shashank Chandru); 400 medley (Luis Miranda, Vaughn Hajra, Robert Yang, Gabriel Labadie); 800 free (Matt Segal, Cam Williston, Alex Farmer, Caleb Rice); and 200 medley (Luis Miranda, Samuel Fonte, Robert Yang, Trent Hitchins).

Pioneer finished second in the 400 free (Cam Williston, Gabriel Labadie, Caleb Rice, Henry Cramer); 200 fly (Shashank Chandru, Gabriel Labadie, Henry Cramer, Robert Yang); and 200 free (Matt Segal, Henry Cramer, Henri Schneehagen, Trent Hitchins).

State-qualification performances were accomplished by Segal in the 200 and 50 free. MISCA qualification cuts were achieved by Trent Hitchins (50 free), Cam Williston (100 free), Luis Miranda (100 back), and Matt Segal (50 & 200 free).
