Boys Basketball: Pioneer improves to 5-1 with wins over Adrian, WL Western

 

The Pioneer boys’ basketball team used a huge second quarter to take control on Tuesday night and cruised to a 71-48 win over host Adrian in an SEC crossover game.

Pioneer improved to 5-1 on the young season.

The teams played to a 13-13 draw in the first quarter before the Pioneers scored 22 points while holding the Maples to just eight points in the second quarter to take a 35-21 lead into halftime.

Pioneer outscored Adrian 19-14 in the third quarter and 17-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Pioneers, who shared the ball well with 16 assists, also dominated the boards, outrebounding their hosts 34-10.

Drew Lowder scored 15 and had five assists to lead the offense. Alex Cunningham (5 of 8 shooting) had 13 points, Kasean Pryor scored 10, Koebe Moore scored nine and Aedan Ishop added seven for the Pioneers. Pryor and Moore combined for 15 rebounds. Mac VanRenterghem had five assists.

On Friday, Aidan Wright made 8 of 10 shots and finished with 21 points to help lead the Pioneers to a 67-40 win over Walled Lake Western. Pioneer dominated early, taking a 22-6 lead and led the entire game. The Pioneers outscored the Warriors 19-10 in the second quarter to take a 41-16 halftime lead.

Moore was a perfect 6 for 6 from the floor including three triples to finish with 17 points. Pryor and Lowder each scored eight points. Cunningham and Frank Petruv each scored four in the win.
