The Pioneer girls’ basketball team not only rallied for a big win but the Pioneers did it on the road and against a very strong team. Pioneer tightened the defense in the second half and turned up the offense in an impressive 66-58 win at Toledo Central Catholic.
After giving up 39 points in the first half, the Pioneer defense played to a different level, holding Central Catholic to just 19 points in the second half.
Freshman point guard Lauren DeWolf not only led the offense but finished with a team-high 20 points to go along with five steals in the win. But she also got plenty of help from her talented teammates.
Asaria Turman recorded her third double-double of the year with 14 points and 13 rebounds along with two blocks. Corine Burgard also had a big game with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Mya Hicks also came up big with nine points and five rebounds.
The team also had an early holiday dinner and spent Sunday touring Stroh arena in Bowling Green, Ohio and visiting with the Bowling Green basketball team, the alma mater of Coach Ali Mann.
Pioneer will be back in action on Dec. 27 against Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.
