Girls Basketball: Pioneer uses big third quarter to knock of FGR

The Pioneer girls’ basketball team used another big third quarter to rally and finish off another game in the win column. The Pioneers scored 26 points in the third quarter – almost double of what they scored in the first half – to knock off Father Gabriel Richard 55-37 on Thursday in the Washtenaw Winter Challenge at Lincoln High School.

The Fighting Irish started out strong and went into halftime with an 18-14 lead over Pioneer.

Keeping with their recent trend of third-quarter rallies, Pioneer fought back with a 26-point third quarter barrage and never looked back.

Pioneer was led by Asaria Turman who had 11 points and 13 rebounds. Mya Hicks chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Lauren DeWolf and Whitney Gallagher each added two threes to the box score to help in the second half.

Pioneer shot 42 percent from the floor and dominated the boards.

On Saturday, Pioneer defeated undefeated Coldwater 57-53.
