Skyline crew: Ninth annual AA City Dodgeball Championship a success

The ninth annual Ann Arbor City Dodgeball Championship at Skyline High School was another big success – on and off the court. The event is a major fundraiser for the highly successful Skyline crew team.

Skyline crew, like many other sports in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, has seen a large decrease in district funding. Further decreases in athletic funding make fundraising an important part of a team’s culture.

Fundraising events like this put an emphasis on the FUN, engage the greater community, and also support the long term goals of Skyline Crew. We want to ensure the great sport of rowing is accessible to as many students in the district as possible.

The money goes to crew athlete financial aid and team equipment.

“We feel strongly a families’ financial capacity shouldn’t dictate access to high school athletics,” said crew coach Kit Bennett. “We give about $8k a year away in financial aid to help families for team dues and travel.”
