The Skyline boys’ basketball team didn’t have to deal with the bad taste in their mouth for very long after Friday’s loss to crosstown rival Huron on Friday night. The Eagles took off less than 24 hours later against Old Redford Academy as part of the Fast Break Invitational on Saturday at Belleville High School.
The Eagles quickly returned to the win column with an impressive 65-47 win over Old Redford Academy.
Skyline came out and hit some shots to take an early lead with Ryan Wade and Kabir Bergin. Old Redford continued to battle and use pressure defense and made some shots to narrow the lead.
In the first half, Skyline would take a six to eight point lead a couple times and Old Redford would battle back to narrow the gap. The Eagles led 14-11 after the first quarter and 25-22 at the break.
In the third quarter, Skyline switched up the defense a little bit and seemed to have a little more energy on the defensive end. They also made shots in transition off forced turnovers and went on a big run to push the lead well into double digits.
The Eagles outscored Old Redford 24-12 in the third quarter and 16-13 in the final period.
Wade had 25 points and four assists to lead the Skyline offense.
Davion Pipkins had a huge impact on this game with his defensive effort and hustle plays. He also had 12 points driving hard to the basket in transition along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
Kabir Bergin made some big shots and finished with 11 points. DeSean Munson had 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Skyline will play at home on Tuesday against Bedford in a conference matchup. The Eagles host Pioneer on Friday in a girls-boys doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m.
