The Skyline boys’ basketball team turned stronger offensive and defensive execution into a hard-fought 51-45 victory over Saline on Friday night at Skyline.
Senior Ryan Wade led the offense with 22 points. Senior DeSean Munson had 15 points and was big on the boards all night for the Eagles. Robert Malcolm Jr. had eight points. Chris Cayton, Davion Pipkins and Jaylin Cooper each added two points in the win.
The Eagles got off to a good start and a solid first-quarter lead at 15-8 as Wade had nine points and Munson scored four along with solid half-court defense.
Saline would continue to battle in the second quarter and converted on some drives to the basket and cut the lead to 26-23 at half.
The Eagles came out flying in the third quarter building the lead to double digits and holding Saline to only five third-quarter points with solid half-court defense.
In the fourth quarter, Saline continued to battle and hit some big mid-range shots to cut the lead down to three in the fourth quarter led by Griffin Yaklich (12 points) and Trevor Arico (15 points).
Skyline would answer with Munson scoring six big points along with Wade and Malcolm Jr. converting 6 of 7 free throws late in the game to secure the victory.
Skyline will host Huron on Tuesday. The River Rats, who fell to Pioneer on Friday night, defeated the Eagles earlier in the season.
