Local Horizon Performing Arts hosts auditions, announces upcoming shows

Horizon Performing Arts, a new non-profit theatre group in Washtenaw County that focuses on art education for all ages, will host auditions for the upcoming production of “Pippin.” Auditions are Feb. 16 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) and Feb. 17 (2:30 -4:30 p.m.) at Northside Community Church in Ann Arbor. Actors must be currently in high school or older to audition for this production.

Horizon Performing Arts will perform “Pippin” April 26-28 at Riverside Arts Center. The show is being directed by Connor Rhoades.

Horizon’s other spring production is “Children of a Lesser God,” which will take the stage May 10-11 at the Biltmore Studio in the Village Theater. Auditions for this show are March 1 and March 3. The show will be directed by Reilly Conlon.

Summer shows include “A Chorus Line,” Aug. 1-4 at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theater and “The History of Kids on Broadway: A Musical Revue” Aug. 23-25 at the Arthur Miller Theater.

Past shows from Horizon have included some brilliant productions such as “Winnie-The-Pooh,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Stuart Little,” “Fully Committed,” “Falsettos,” “Disaster,” “Charlie Brown,” and “The History of Broadway.”

Since Horizon first opened the curtain, the theatre has had more than 260 cast and crew members, worked in four different venues and sold more than 2,725 tickets.

“We have reached hundreds of community members in the Southeastern Michigan region both as active participants and loyal patrons,” says Reilly Conlon, the associate director. “Our social media presence has gained large momentum both on Facebook and Instagram. And we continue to improve and grow with each new project that we set out for ourselves.”

Horizon has established a clear identity in a vibrant theatre scene. But the productions are only a part of what the community theatre is all about. They also offer a variety of classes and workshops throughout the year for “students” of all ages.
