Boys Basketball: Pioneer tops Monroe to clinch SEC Red Division title


The Pioneer boys’ basketball team crushed Monroe on Thursday night to clinch an SEC Red Division title. Pioneer improved to 9-0 in the division and 16-2 overall.

Pioneer set the tone early against the host Trojans. They came out and scored 29 first-quarter points to Monroe’s 13. Pioneer outscored their hosts 30-15 in the second quarter to cruise into halftime leading 59-28.

Kasean Pryor had another big game as the senior center continues his impressive streak. Pryor scored a game-high 32 points on 13 of 16 shooting from the floor, making both three-point attempts. He also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Drew Lowder, who last week topped 1,000 career points, added 19 to his grand total on 7 of 11 shooting from the floor. The senior guard also had six assists and four rebounds.

Koebe Moore made 5 of 9 shots and scored 14 points in the win. Aiden Lee, Mac VanRenterghem and Aidan Wright each scored four.

The Pioneers made 33 of 54 shots from the floor compared to Monroe’s 19 of 50 shooting. Pioneer outrebounded Monroe 31-17.

The Pioneers will face Detroit King in Southfield on Sunday and host Bedford on Tuesday.
