Hockey: Skyline Eagles skate past Chelsea 5-1


The Skyline hockey team skated back into the win column on Friday with an impressive 5-1 win over Chelsea at the Arctic Coliseum. Skyline (12-7) led 1-0 after one period and then took a 3-1 lead into the final period before scoring two unanswered goals in the third period.

Jamie Newton got the Eagles off the ground with a goal at 4:55 of the first period with an assist from Ryan Garrett.

At 2:59 of the second period, Noah Bradburn (from Isaac Lippert) scored to make it 2-0. Shea O’Brien’s unassisted goal at 1:55 pushed the Eagles out front 3-0. Chelsea scored late in the period to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Jack Brady (from O’Brien) gave Skyline a 4-1 lead early in the third period. A few minutes later, Jacob Rothenberg (from Lippert and Henry Hescheles) scored to make it 5-1.

Brendon Cobb and Tommy Letke combined in net to make 20 saves.

The Eagles had won four straight starting on Jan. 16 with a 8-3 win over Huron but then dropped two games (3-1 to Northville and 3-2 to Forest Hills Central) before the win over the Bulldogs.

Skyline plays at Milford (Monday) and at Pinckney (Wednesday before hosting White Lake Lakeland on Friday at the Arctic Coliseum.
