Boys Basketball: Pioneer keeps on rolling, knock off Bedford

Six players scored nine or more points and a huge second quarter helped lead Pioneer to a convincing 80-41 win Tuesday over Bedford in an SEC Red Division game. The Pioneers have already locked up the division title but continue to flex their muscles as they head to the postseason.

Pioneer trailed 21-17 after the first quarter but turned a 23-3 run in the second quarter to a comfortable 40-24 halftime lead. They put the game away with a 22-7 third quarter and outscored the Kicking Mules 18-10 in the fourth quarter just for good measure.

Pioneer improved to 18-2 overall on the season.

Drew Lowder scored 16 points on 8 of 13 shooting and also had a team-high seven assists in the win. Alex Cunningham had one of his best games of the season. The senior guard made 5 of 8 shots and finished with 14 points and also grabbed five rebounds.

Aidan Wright and Koebe Moore each scored 12 and Mac VanRenterghem and Chris Holmes (eight rebounds) each scored nine points for the Pioneers. Kasean Pryor had four points and eight boards.

Friday’s scheduled game with Tecumseh was cancelled.
