Boys Basketball: Skyline heads to Districts following win over Ferndale


The Skyline boys’ basketball team wrapped up its successful 2018-19 regular season on Friday with a 70-61 victory over visiting Ferndale. The Eagles landed with a 13-7 overall record.

Skyline heads to Districts on Wednesday against the winner of South Lyon-South Lyon East game.

Ferndale got off to a red hot shooting start and took advantage of Skyline’s poor defensive execution to take a 27-14 first quarter lead. Skyline regrouped after a tough start, worked to improve its half court defensive effort and hit some shots in the second quarter to battle back to a 39-38 deficit for the half.

Skyline was able to continue its great half-court defense and shot selection in the third quarter to take a 53-48 lead after three. Skyline was able to continue to build on its lead through the fourth quarter with timely baskets and better half-court defense.|

Ryan Wade had 25 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. To help Ryan, Jaylin Cooper and Spencer Morgan had huge games to aid in the comeback and secure the win. Cooper had 16 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Morgan had 9 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks in his best game of the season.

DeSean Munson, Chris Cayton, Davion Pipkins (6 pts and 6 rebounds) and Robtert Malcolm Jr (8 pts, 3 assists and 3 steals) all had a significant impact on the game to secure the win. Jack Williams also had a big game for the Eagles. The sophomore had six points and four rebounds and helped the Eagles regain momentum.
