The Skyline boys’ basketball team opened its District play in the semifinals on Wednesday night after drawing a first-round bye. The rested Eagles used a tough defense and scored just enough offense to knock off South Lyon East 52-39 at Dexter High School.
The win sends the Eagles into the District finals at 7 p.m. on Friday against Brighton at Dexter.
Skyline was able to come out with a very good first quarter effort defensively with pressure and activity that led to good offensive opportunities. Skyline was able to take a 17-6 first quarter lead.
South Lyon East would continue to battle and Skyline had a difficult shooting night as did South Lyon East. Skyline would continue to hold a double-digit lead throughout most of the rest of the game switching defenses and working to keep pressure on defensively.
Skyline was led by Ryan Wade with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. DeSean Munson had a solid game with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Skyline’s best plays of the night were on the defensive end and Robert Malcolm Jr (4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals), Davion Pipkins (4 points, 11 rebounds), Jaylin Cooper (4 points, 4 steals), Spencer Morgan, Chris Cayton and Jack Williams (6 points, 3 rebounds) were all doing their role defensively to help hold South Lyon East to 39 points.
