Girls Basketball: Huron advances to face Saline in District semifinals

 

Huron opened up the playoffs on Monday with an impressive 75-37 win over Belleville in a first-round District game at Pioneer High School.

Reeya Patel led the River Rats in scoring with 12 points. Jadyn Smith had 10 points and Kaiden Glenn scored nine in the win.

The River Rats will take on SEC rival Saline at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6 at Pioneer in the first of two semifinal games.

Huron has defeated Saline twice this season but neither game was easy for the young River Rats. Huron won 48-44 in the first game and 67-65 in double overtime the second game of the SEC Red Division matchups.

“Saline’s Ella Stemmer had 21 points in the first game and 23 in the second game,” said Huron Coach Scott Hunter. “We will have to a good job defending her and keep our turnovers down.”

Pioneer will play Ypsilanti Community in the second game starting at 7 p.m.

In the other first round game on Monday, Ypsilanti knocked out Lincoln 66-30 to advance to the Wednesday’s semifinal.
