The Huron baseball team turned five hits and seven walks into a 5-3 win over Milan on Wednesday night in a non-league game at Milan.
The River Rats and Big Reds each scored a run in the second. Huron took a 2-1 lead before scoring three in the sixth inning. They had just one error in the game.
Davis Maimer, Alex Cole (three walks), Hayden Glover, Matthew Wyderko and Nate Hawley each had a hit for the visitors. Taha Ebrahm had three walks and two runs scored. Six of the seven walks were to Cole and Ebrahm.
Kade Cupp was solid on the mound for the River Rats. He allowed just one earned run and one walk with ringing up nine Big Reds.
On Tuesday, the Pioneers dropped a pair of close games to Detroit Catholic Central in a non-league twin bill. CC won the first game 7-3 and took the nightcap 3-1.
Pioneer led 3-0 after four innings in the opener but CC scored four in the fifth and three more in the sixt. Pioneer had six hits and just one error.
Hazen Westover, Noah Kotre, Donnie Thompson, Tyler Nowak, Ben Stidham and Sam Ciesielski all had hits for the Pioneers.
Stidham started and went 4.2 innings, allowing just two hits, three walks and three runs while striking out two. Stuart Demas and Sean Knorr pitched in relief.
In game two, Catholic Central scored its three runs in the first two innings and hung for the win. The hosts had 10 hits while Pioneer had five in the game.
Westhover went 2 for 3 and Nowak, Kotre and Thompson all had hits.
Westhover (seven hits, two earned runs) and Ciesielski split the pitching duties.
The Pioneers play at Dexter on Thursday (4:30 p.m., weather permitting) in a single game SEC crossover.
