Boys Lacrosse: FGR wins two big games to improve to 8-1 on the season 


An exciting week for the Father Gabriel Richard boys’ lacrosse team landed the Irish with a 8-1 overall record and 3-0 in the Catholic League. The Irish scored an 8-2 win over Troy-Athens and then used overtime to beat Novi later in the week.

“I am so proud of my team and how they’ve been performing this season, on and off the field,” said head coach Adam Kolevar. “Without a doubt, this past week has been the most exciting lacrosse I’ve experienced as a player or coach. An overtime win against Greenhills in the second annual Plymouth Road Classic, followed by an 8-2 win at Troy Athens, and capped off with an OT win against Novi. I am so impressed with my team and the direction they’re headed. The skies the limit!”

On Tuesday, FGR led 4-1 at halftime and cruised to an 8-2 win over host Troy-Athens.

The Irish then played a tight and tough game at Novi HS against the Wildcats. FGR led 4-3 at halftime and the game was tied 8-8 after regulation. Montgomery scored for the Irish to send this game into the win column for a 9-8 victory.

The Fighting Irish host St. Mary Catholic Central High School at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. They play at Gross Pointe Liggett at 6 p.m., on Wednesday.
