The Pioneer girls’ track and field team scored 150 points to cross the finish line in first place at the annual Shake Off the Rust Invitational on Friday at Cardinal Stadium in Davison. Plymouth ran a close second with 125 points followed by Grand Blanc (118), Davison (89) and Oxford (76).
Pioneer’s Skylar Fletcher was ninth in the 100 meters (13.98) and teammate Jacquelyn Brines was 11th (14.40). In the 200 meters, Gabrielle Richmond was 13th (30.15) and Laura Simon was eighth in the 400 meters (1:06.65).
Anna Dudek placed fifth in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:01.52.
The Pioneers dominated the 3200 meters. Junior Anna Vogel finished first in 11:51.32 and freshman Charlotte Batra was third in 12:23.30.
The Pioneers did one better in the 100 hurdles. Junior Jayla Johnson took first in 16.03 with freshman Gabriella Newman in second in 16.78 in a close race to the finish. Freshman Melanie Valtadoros was 10th in 20.72. In the 300 hurdles, Newman ran first in 49.58 and Johnson finished fourth in 53.52. Valtadoros was 12th in 1:01.32.
Pioneer’s 4×100 relay team of Skylar Fletcher, Jacquelyn Brines, Gabrielle Richmond, Justice Jackson was fourth in 52.48. Pioneer’s 4×200 relay team of Skylar Fletcher, Justice Jackson, Laura Simon, Mya Georgiadis placed third in 1:52.43. Pioneer’s 4×400 relay team of Justice Jackson, Sarah Forsyth, Gabriella Newman, Mya Georgiadis was second in 4:23.69. And their 4×800 relay team of Lydia Valtadoros, Cookie Baugh, Stella Weinberg, Sarah Forsyth was first in 10:02.23.
In the shot put, Pioneer senior Aderinola Adunbi was first (37-05) and Lis Cordeiro was 16th (24-05.50). Adunbi was sixth (87) and Cordeiro was eighth (82-10) in the discus.
Newman took first in the high jump at 5-04. Johnson was fifth (4-09). Senior Vanessa Woolley won the pole vault at 10-06. Mirjam Schaub was sixth in the long jump (15-0).
