One bad inning proved costly for the Dexter softball team in the second game of a double-header at Chelsea. The Bulldogs scored three runs in third inning to take the lead and knocked off the rival Dreadnaughts 5-1.
Chelsea led 4-0 when Dexter scored in the top of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Both teams had seven hits and one error.
Both Kylee Niswonger (a double) and Livvy Mellifont had two hits apiece for the Dreadnaughts. Sam Sutton had a hit, a walk and scored a run. Brenna Cassidy and Lillie Robeson each had a hit.
Paige Sayler worked the first three innings for Dexter, allowing five hits and three runs with three strikeouts. Sutton also pitched three innings, allowing two hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.
Chelsea scored four runs in the second and eight in the fourth to win the opening game 12-1. Dexter did have six hits including two at the top of the order from Niswonger. Jenna Wagenschultz had a hit and an RBI. Alexis Haley, Emma Sortor and Lillie Robeson all had hits for the Dexter.
The Dreads play at Skyline on Wednesday.
