After losing a couple close games on Monday to Huron, the Pioneers welcomed their rivals on Wednesday and scored a little bit of revenge. The Pioneers broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run second inning and knocked off the River Rats 9-2.
Pioneer added runs in the third and fifth inning and finished with 10 hits while committing two errors. Huron had seven hits and had an uncharacteristic four errors – they only had two in the two games on Monday.
Four Pioneers had two hits in the win. Brendan Karsch had a huge game with the bat with two hits including a double, three RBI, a walk and a run scored. Wyatt Raymond had two hits and two RBI; Hazen Westover had two hits including a double with an RBI and two runs scored; and Ben Stidham had two hits, a walk and three runs scored.
Raymond led the Pioneer to victory on the hill. He allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five and walking none.
Davis Malmer took the loss for Huron. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs while walking one. Richard Hurley pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, two runs, four walks with four strikeouts.
Taha Ebrahim went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Rats Varsity in hits. Alex Cole had a double and an RBI and Matthew Wyderko had an RBI for Huron.
On Monday, Huron defeated visiting Pioneer 5-4 and 7-4 in a doubleheader.
The Pioneers host Adrian at 10 a.m. on Saturday (single game) in an SEC crossover. They play two against visiting Monroe on Monday.
Huron hosts Tecumseh at 10 a.m. on Saturday in an SEC crossover game. The River Rats host Bedford at 4 p.m. on Monday.
