The Dreadbots walked in on Saturday ranked 12th on their field with high hopes for the playoffs. However, in a stunning development, the Dexter team came up one spot short of selecting an alliance – and they were not chosen by any of the teams that were picking.
According to team mentors, the Dreadbots ranking score would have guaranteed them a top-eight rank and a playoff spot on every one of the other five fields at the Detroit world competition. Normally, the top 12 to 13 teams on a field have the opportunity to select an alliance of their own and compete in the playoffs.
The tough competition on Curie field and some tough breaks in the competition and selection process resulted in the Dreadbots being left on the outside looking in.
Nonetheless, the season was a terrific success, with the Dreadbots on one district-winning alliance and another runner up. They also ranked highly in the state, and it took a shocking turn of events to keep them out of the playoffs on the toughest field at the world competition in Detroit.
