After opening up the week with 33 runs in a sweep of Ypsilanti on Monday, the Dexter softball team returned to the bat rack and racked up 24 more runs in a sweep of visiting Huron on Wednesday. The River Rats brought a young team to Dexter – they have no seniors on the roster – and couldn’t hang with the more experienced Dreadnaughts in games that featured strong play from both dugouts.
Dexter scored three runs in the first inning and broke it open with four in the fourth to win the first game 10-0. Dexter had 10 hits and were perfect in the field. The River Rats had three hits and committed two errors.
What a game by Jenna Wagenschutz, who was 3-for-4 at the plate, including a pair of doubles, with three RBI and two runs scored. Sam Sutton also had another strong game for Dexter. She was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, two walks, three runs scored and two RBI. Kylee Niswonger led off the Dexter lineup with one hit (a double), two walks and two runs scored. Emma Sorter had one of everything – hit, run, RBI and walk. Livvy Mellifont had a hit and two runs scored.

Taylor Wilson allowed just one hit while striking out three in 4 innings. Sam Sutton had two Ks in one inning for the hosts.
Devin Wilderman and Micah Higa had Huron’s hits.
Huron opened the second game with a run before Dexter answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the first. The River Rats scored again in the top of the second but Dexter answered with a three spot in the bottom of the second. The Dreadnaughts scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and fourth in the sixth for a 14-4 win in the nightcap.
Dexter had seven hits and two errors. The River Rats, who scored two in the fifth inning, had eight hits and two errors.
Three Dexter players had two hits in the win: Lillie Robeson (who also had three runs scored, two RBI and a walk), Mellifont (who scored four runs and had two RBI and two walks) and Sortor (who had two RBI, one run and one walk). Robeson and Mellifont had doubles in the game. Emily Lance had two walks and a run scored and Kristy Maitland had a hit, a walk and a run scored.
Paige Sayler worked four innings in the circle. She allowed six hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Brenna Cassidy had two strikeouts while allowing two hits and two runs in two innings.
Higa was 2-for-2 including a double with a run scored and an RBI and Karli Messer had a double, walk and an RBI for the River Rats.
Dexter hosts Pinckney for a pair on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
Huron hosts Bedford on Friday.
