Dexter runs second, fourth at SEC Track and Field Championships

Chelsea hosted the annual SEC Track and Field Championships on May 9. Here is how Dexter fared in both the girls and boys meets.

Boys

In the eight-team tournament, Dexter ran fourth with 79 points. Pinckney finished first with 151, 2 points, followed by Chelsea (120) and Ypsilanti Lincoln (81.5).

Junior Nathan Larson led the way in the distance events. Larson took 2nd in the 1600m run with a time of 4:30.16, followed by Dreadnaughts Owen Huard for 4th (4:32.45) and Seth Read in 5th at 4:33.87. Larson then finished the day with another 2nd place finish in the 3200 with a time of 9:53.64. Teammates Conor Kolka took 6th (10:03.94), and Nick McKenzie 7th (10:05.33) as well.

Senior Noah Hayter finished the distance placers taking an 8th in the 800m run. Junior Henry Sheldon also had a great day winning the Pole Vault with a jump of 14’6”, and took 3rd in the Long Jump with a leap of 18’10. Pole Vault teammates Oliver Bishop took 2nd. Noah Schultz 4th, Cole Sheldon 5th, and Zach Sawin was 8th.

The team of Liam Buller, Nathan Larson, Seth Read and Owen Huard won the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 8:17.68.

Girls

The Dexter girls finished with 121 points to place second behind Pinckney (157). Chelsea was third with 80 points, just one better than Ypsilanti.

Leading the way for Dexter was senior Nicole Bow who had a double school record breaking day. Breaking her own school fecord, she won the long jump with a leap of 17’4”. Next up was her school record breaking performance in the 300m hurdles clocking a time of 47.08. And to round out her day she took 2nd in the Pole Vault with a jump of 11’0”.

Other top performers of the day were seniors Anna Varitek taking 4th in the 1600m (5:29.28) and 2nd in the 32oom (11:50.51), and Lauren Bazick taking 4th in the 400m with a time of 1:01.71. Sophomores Brooke Steere won the 100m Hurdles with a time of 16.33, and Josie Mettes had the best jump in the girls Pole Vault with 11’6”. Field events took multiple other places in the High Jump; Emma Young 5th, Jennifer Bow 7th, and Emma Young for 8th. Pole Vault took additional places from Sophie Mettes 3rd, Teaghan Holman 5th, Mackenzie Stock 6th, and Annissa Sisson 7th.
