Baseball: Trevor Feeman helps Dreadnaughts walk off with a split

After dropping a tough opener to Pinckney on Monday, the Dexter baseball team bounced back with a comeback win in the eighth inning of the second game to earn a split with the Pirates in an SEC White Division doubleheader at Dexter.

Let’s start at the beginning. Dexter scored two runs in the second inning before the Pirates rallied with three runs in the sixth and held on for a 3-2 win in the opener. Dexter had five hits and were perfect in the field. The Pirates had four hits with one error.

Jacoby Haley took the loss for Dexter. He lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out two.

Kevin DeVoogd led the Dreadnaughts with two hits. Alex Mills had a double, Andy Durand had a hit and an RBI, Trevor Feeman had a hit and a run scored and Nate Kniesteadt had an RBI and run scored for Dexter.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with the game tied 8-8, Feeman drew a bases-loaded walk to deliver the game-winning run for Dexter.

In a back-and-forth ballgame, Dexter led 3-1 after one but trailed 5-4 after two. The Pirates took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fourth but Dexter tied the game with a pair in the bottom of the inning. The Dreads led 7-6 after five but the Pirates tied it up with a run the sixth. Pinckney took an 8-7 lead with a run in the top of the eighth before Dexter put up two runs in the bottom of the frame to win it.

Dexter had 12 hits to Pinckney’s eight. Both teams made four errors in the game.

Nathaniel Fiegel was credited with the victory for Dexter. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing no hits or runs while striking out two. Mills threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. David Kreske started and went five innings, allowing six hits, five earned runs with four strikeouts.

Evan Krolewski was 4-for-5 with the bat including two doubles. He also knocked in three runs and scored a run. Mills also had a huge game at the plate. The senior was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk. Feeman had a double with two RBI and Zach Gulleckson had a hit, walk, two runs scored and an RBI.

The two teams will play again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Pinckney.
