Girls Track & Field: Pioneer wins SEC championships; Skyline third, Huron fifth

 

The local teams ran down to Monroe on Friday for the annual SEC Red Division Track and Field championships and all three schools put up impressive showings on the girls’ side of the meet. While Pioneer ran away with the title, there was a close race to the finish line for second place.

The mighty Pioneers racked up 170 points to finish first overall. Saline took second place by just two points over Skyline. The Hornets totaled 132 points to the Eagles 130. Bedford was fourth (60.5), Huron fifth (53) and Monroe sixth (51.5).

At the top of the table in the 100 meters was Huron’s Fatouma Conde. The speedy sophomore crossed the line with a PR time of 12.62 seconds. Skyline’s Alexys Wilson was fourth (12.83), Pioneer’s Vanessa Woolley was fifth (13.12) and Huron’s Christabelle Obi was sixth (13.15).

The Eagles dominated at the top of the 200 meters with Wilson, only a freshman, second (25.97) and Jaeda Olive third (26.08). Conde was fourth for Huron in 26.47, Skyline’s Zsofia Hull was fifth (27.02), Huron’s Obi seventh (27.66) and Pioneer’s Gabrielle Richmond eighth (28.07).

Pioneer freshman Mya Georgiadis was second in the 400 meters in 58.45. Skyline than posted an impressive run with Hull third (59.94), Felicity Sorenson fifth (1:01.6), Sydney Cunningham sixth (1:02.35) and Lillian Peck ninth (1:03.18). Huron’s Yanisa Aquino was 11th (1:05.27) and teammate Antiya Sidibe was 13th (1:07.25).

Pioneer’s Zofia Dudek raced to the top spot in the 800 meters, the 1600 meters and 3200 meters – yeah, she had a pretty good day. The outstanding junior was first in the 800 in 2:18.49 and won the 1600 in 4:59.57. The Pioneers dominated both events with Sarah Forsyth third (2:23.33) and Cookie Baugh fourth (2:25.77) in the 800; and Forsyth second (5:09.70) and Anna Vogel fifth (5:24.9) in the 1600.

Also in the 800, Skyline’s Catrin Koselka was sixth (2:29.32) and Peck ninth (2:31.80). Also in the 1600, Skyline’s Laura O’Brien was seventh in 5:26.34.

Dudek (11:01.7) and Forsyth (11:17.38) went one-two in the 3200 meters to lead Pioneer. Vogel was fifth in 11:36.80. O’Brien was seventh (11:42.94) for Skyline. Anna Dudek was 13th (12:32.30) and Charlotte Batra 14th (12:33.66) for the Pioneers.

Pioneer went one two in the 100 hurdles with junior Jayla Johnson first (15.34) and freshman Gabriella Newman second (15.42). Huron’s Kay-Lee McSwain was third (15.80). Skyline went four-five with Madeline Nicholas (16.30) and Ayanna Bell (16.86). Pioneer’s Isabelle Perkins was sixth (17.36) and teammate Vanessa Woolley was seventh (17.38).

In the 300 hurdles, Skyline went one-two with Nicholas, a senior, first in 46.49 (PR) and Jaeda Olive second in 46.55. Newman was third for Pioneer in 47.51 and teammate Jayla Johnson was fifth in 49.83. Bell was sixth for Skyline in 50.36 and teammate Paula Martinez-Cinta was eighth in 51.75. Perkins was ninth for Pioneer in 53.47.

Huron won the 4×100 relay in 49.59 with Skyline second (49.82) and Pioneer third (51.94). In the 4×200 relay, Skyline took first in 1:43.6 with Pioneer third (1:50.6) and Huron fourth (1:55.16).

Skyline also won the 4×400 relay in 4:03.21. Pioneer was third (4:17.80) and Huron fourth (4:20.15).

Pioneer won the 4×800 relay in 9:31.59. Skyline was third (10:03.48) and Huron fourth (10:33.79).

Pioneer senior Aderinola Adunbi won the shot put with a toss of 38-2. Skyline’s Janee Faulkner was second (37-8) with teammate and sister Renee Faulkner in sixth (31-5). Huron’s Mikayla Keefer was eighth (30-2).

In the discus, Janee Faulkner was fifth (94-9) for the Eagles. Adunbi was sixth (91-9) for the Pioneers and teammate Sadie Freisthler was seventh (89-8). Renee Faulkner was ninth (80-7) and Pioneer’s Lis Cordeiro was 10th (80).

Newman won the high jump for the Pioneers. The freshman went 5-4 to finish first. Huron freshman Madison Kieft went 5-2 to take second. Skyline’s Felicity Sorenson was fourth (5-0). Pioneer’s Jayla Johnson was seventh (4-9) and teammate Mirjam Schaub was ninth (4-7). Skyline’s Melissa Breiner was 11th (4-7).

Pioneer senior Vanessa Woolley won the pole vault (10-0). Skyline’s Sam Barber was third (9-6) and Huron’s Lauren Zukowski was ninth (7-7).

In the long jump, Huron’s Dana Decan was fifth (15-3.5), Skyline’s Melissa Breiner was seventh (15-2), Huron’s Madison Kieft was eighth (15-0.5) and Pioneer’s Kayla Rollins was ninth (15). Skyline’s Sam Barber was 10th (14-10).
