Baseball: Westover fans eight to help lead Pioneers over Skyline


The Pioneer baseball team took a 4-0 lead over Skyline into the fifth inning before doubling their lead and cruising to an 8-2 win over the Eagles in an SEC Red Division game on Wednesday at Skyline.

Pioneer scored two runs in the first and third innings. Skyline scored its two runs in the sixth.

Hazen Westover pitched the Pioneers to victory. He surrendered two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking none.

Jack Yeung took the loss for Skyline. He surrendered four runs on four hits over three innings, striking out six.

The Pioneers totaled 10 hits on the day.

Brendan Karsch had two doubles, three RBI and a run scored for the Pioneers.  Wyatt Raymond had two hits and a walk, Westover had two hits and two walks, Tyler Nowak had a hit, two RBI and a run scored and Matt Grier had a hit, run scored and an RBI for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers play a DH on Saturday at U-M against Plymouth starting at 11 a.m.
