With the District playoffs looming in the on-deck circle, the Huron baseball team welcomed Greenhills for a non-league game between two strong teams. The Gryphons led 3-1 after three innings when they scored three more in the fifth inning. After adding a run in the sixth, the River Rats battled back with two runs in the sixth and another in seventh but fell short as Greenhills scored a 7-4 win>
Greenhills finished with 10 hits and one error on the day. The River Rats had eight hits and committed three errors in the field.
Three players recorded two hits apiece for Greenhills. Aidan Brewer led off with three hits including a triple, a run scored and an RBI; Ben Cole was 1-for-3 including a double with two runs scored; and Stevie Snabes was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Alex Schneider had two hits, RBI and run scored; Gabriel Seir had two RBI; Henry Branch had a hit and run scored; and Alex Winning had an RBI and scored twice for the Gryphons.
Brewer went the first four innings and gave up just one run and three hits over four innings with four strikeouts to earn the win. Seir worked the final three innings and gave up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.
Hayden Glover (four innings, eight hits, three earned runs) took the loss for Huron. Ian Barritt and Kade Cupp pitched well in relief.
Huron also had three players with multiple hits: Matthew Wyderko, Taha Ebrahim and Cupp. William Downer, Nate Hawley and Cupp all had doubles for the River Rats.
