B2B Trail update: Construction plans continue on path

B2B development continues with rapid construction on the path from the City of Chelsea toward Dexter. This 2.1 mile segment, beginning at Freer Road and ending at Lima Center Road, is targeted for completion this summer.

Spring is a busy season for trail construction! We are happy to share the following updates on Border-to-Border Trail (B2B) projects:

Dexter-Chelsea Trail, Freer to Lima Center – The bridge over Mill Creek is scheduled to be delivered and set in place during the last week of May. Approximately 90% of the grading and 90% of the stone base is complete. The concrete curb will be poured and paving will start in early June. A five foot wide sidewalk will also be built to connect Chelsea Ridge subdivision directly to the path.

Huron River Drive Trail, Dexter-Huron Metropark to Zeeb Road – The contractor is working on the first of two temporary and permanent bridges on this trail segment. We are now waiting on the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) approvals to do work in the river.

Zeeb Road to Delhi Metropark Trail Segment – The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) and Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) have selected a contractor to do the final engineering design work.

City of Ypsilanti – A consultant has been hired to design two segments of the B2B in the City of Ypsilanti, one in Frog Island Park and the other along Grove Road. These will both be potential 2020 projects.

Ypsilanti Township – WCPARC representatives met with Ypsilanti Township Officials to discuss the final B2B / Iron Belle Trail alignment from the intersection of Grove and Bridge Roads to Rawsonville Road in Van Buren Township. Ypsilanti Township was very supportive of this new alignment from North Hydro Park to the intersection of Grove and Rawsonville Roads. Design work could begin on this segment later this year, and construction could potentially occur in 2020.
