Boys Track & Field: Local teams compete in Dexter’s competitive Larry Steeb Meet of Champions  

Many of the local track and field teams joined a competitive field on Tuesday for the always popular Larry Steeb Meet of Champions at Dexter. The meet featured more than 40 schools from Hartland to Monroe to Dearborn to Algonac.

In the 100 meters, Greenhills senior Harrison Hsu ran a PR time of 11.82 to finish 11th. Dexter went 12-14 with Nathan Biggs (11.83) and Will Telesco (11.86). Father Gabriel Richard’s Kizito Katende was 15th (11.86), Huron’s Ihsan Joseph 16th (11.92) and Pioneer’s Brady Cunningham 17th (11.92).

Skyline junior Savante Daniel went 23.15 to finish fourth in the 200 meters. Hsu was 13th for Greenhills (24.15). FGR went 15-16 with Katende (24.28) and Luke Klinkhammer (24.30). Pioneer’s Samson Dabney was 17th (24.37) and Dexter’s Nathan Gariepy was 18th (24.59).

Pioneer senior Edgar Thomas was ninth in the 400 meters in 52.80 with teammate Joel Pingle in 16th place (54.0). FGR’s Klinkhammer was 19th (54.15), Dexter’s Biggs was 23rd (54.88) and Huron’s Drake Dowdy was 28th (56.22).

Pioneer senior Nick Foster went a PR 1:52.96 to win the 800 meters. Teammate Fred Wallace was 12th (1:59.48). Greenhills’ Ian Dopp was 13th (1:59.67), Huron’s Karsin Dass was 14th (1:59.94) and Dexter’s Seth Read was 16th (2:00.38).

Pioneer freshman Owen Johnson went a PR 4:30.79 to finish 11th in the 1600 meters. Dexter’s Nathan Larson was 16th (4:32.46), Huron’s Donovan Smith was 21st (4:36.37), Huron’s James Cardwell was 22nd (4:36.60) and Huron’s Robert Burke was 30th (4:41.60).

In the freshman 1600 meters, Pioneer’s Henry Monte Sano was second (4:46.39), Dexter’s Josh Lamb was eighth (4:57.42), Pioneer’s Will Foster was ninth (4:57.6) and Dexter’s Adam Hauser was 10th (4:59.70).

Pioneer junior Leo Gabaron went a PR 14.56 to win the 110 hurdles. Skyline’s Matthew Scott was ninth in 17.51.

Gabaron went a PR 38.54 to win the 300 hurdles. Pioneer’s Adunbi Adetomiwa was sixth (42.18) and Skyline’s Scott was eighth (43.46).

In the 4×100 relay, Pioneer was seventh (45.94). The Pioneers were fifth in the 4×200 relay in 1:35.96.

In the 4×400 relay, Pioneer was third (3:34.61) and sixth (3:41.04). Huron was seventh (3:47.53).

Pioneer’s 4×800 relay team of Ethan Mielock, Zac Williston, Axel Hiney and John DeRosia took first in 8:26.38. Dexter was third (8:49.61) and Huron sixth (9:16.05).

In the DMR relay, Pioneer’s team of Ethan Mielock, Jad Merie, Axel Hiney and Owen Johnson took first in 11:11.21. Huron was fourth (11:38.77), Dexter was ninth (11:48.06) and Greenhills 10th (11:54.56).

Pioneer (Adunbi Adetomiwa, Leo Gabaron, Nolan McPherson and Jaivon Smith) won the 4×110 shuttle hurdles in 1:09.28.

FGR’s Rob Smith was ninth in the shot put (38-01) with teammate Andrew Covert 11th (35-06). Dexter’s Adam Greve was 12th (34-02) with teammate James Blankenship 14th (32-07.5). FGR’s Matt Clark was 15th (28-03).

In the discus, Huron’s Tyree Hill was sixth (119-04), Dexter’s Blankenship was ninth (114-04), FGR’s Smith 14th (107-10), Huron’s Harrison Baker was 18th (102-06.5) and Dexter’s Greve was 20th (99-07).

Dexter dominated the pole vault with Henry Sheldon first (15-06), Oliver Bishop fourth (14), Noah Schultz fifth (14), Cole Sheldon sixth (14), Ethan Dunn 12th (12) and Zachary Sawin 15th (11-06). Pioneer’s Daniel Bolanos was 23rd (11).

Dexter’s Henry Sheldon went a PR 19-08 to take fourth in the long jump. Teammate John Fraser was 12th (18-02.5) and Pioneer’s Jaivon Smith was 15th (18-01).
