Girls Track & Field: Local teams compete in Dexter’s competitive Larry Steeb Meet of Champions  

Many of the local track and field teams joined a competitive field on Tuesday for the always popular Larry Steeb Meet of Champions at Dexter. The meet featured more than 40 schools from Hartland to Monroe to Dearborn to Algonac.

Greenhills sophomore Bhaavna Yalavarthi was fifth in the 100 meters in 13.12.

Pioneer sophomore Justice Jackson was fourth in the 200 meters in 26.62. Dexter’s Faith Jones was eighth (27.90) and teammate Maggie Jordan was 12th (28.52).

In the 400 meters, Yalavarthi was fifth (1:00.57), Father Gabriel Richrad’s Ember Larson was sixth (1:01.80) and Skyline’s Alexys Wilson was seventh (1:02.00). Dexter went 8-9 with Lauren Bazick (1:02.19) and Jones (1:02.77). Dexter’s Gwen Tatara was 13th in 1:03.86.

Pioneer junior Zofia Dudek ran a PR time of 2:10.80 to win the 800 meters. Teammate’s Sarah Forsyth (third, 2:17.50) and Lydia Valtadoros (10th, 2:26.14) also placed in the top 10 for the Pioneers. Huron’s Sam Hastie was 11th (2:26.46), Skyline’s Catrin Koselka was 14th (2:27.96) and Dexter’s Megyn Scafasci was 16th (2:28.93).

Pioneer junior Anna Vogel was third in the 1600 meters in 5:19.59 and Skyline sophomore Laura O’Brien was fourth in 5:22.02. Dexter’s Anna Varitek was sixth in 5:24.57.

In the 1600 freshman finals, Dexter’s Hannah McComes was fifth (5:49.83) just a few ticks ahead of teammate Ashley Mitchell who was sixth in 5:49.93. Dexter’s Katherine Betz was 10th (5:55.98).

In the 4×100 relay, Skyline’s team of Jaeda Olive, Alexys Wilson, Sydney Cunningham and Felicity Sorenson ran first in 49.23. Pioneer finished eighth in 51.08. Dexter was 16th in 53.46.

In the 4×200 relay, the Skyline team of Jaeda Olive, Alexys Wilson, Sydney Cunningham and Zsofia Hull took first in 1:42.61. Pioneer was fifth (1:48.26) and Dexter 10th (1:50.75).

In the 4×400 relay, Dexter was fourth in 4:13.99.

In the 4×800 relay, the Skyline team of Catrin Koselka, Madeline Nicholas, Zsofia Hull and Lillian Peck ran first in 9:35.29. FGR was fifth (10:11.94). Huron was eighth (10:44.80) and Dexter 10th (11:20.38).

In the DMR relay, Greenhills was fifth (14:06.95), Dexter sixth (14:09.28) and Pioneer 11th (15:20.97).

In the 4×100 shuttle hurdles, Pioneer cleared third place in 1:06.57.

Pioneer senior Aderinola Adunbi was second in the shot put (40). Skyline’s Janee Faulkner was fourth (37-04.5), Greenhills’ Makayla Harris sixth (34-05.5), Skyline’s Renee Faulkner 19th (30-03) and Pioneer’s Lis Cordiero 24th (29-11). Dexter’s Maya Calloway was 33rd (26-03) and teammate Sophie Roys was 39th (22-06.5).

In the discus, Janee Faulkner was 12th (95-09.5), Pioneer’s Sadie Freisthler was 19th (93-05), Harris was 25th (89-08.5), Cordeiro was 29th (80-04.5) and Renee Faulkner was 39th (63-09). Dexter’s Maya Calloway was 35th (69-05) and teammate Katie Krueger 37th (66-11).

Newman won the high jump for Pioneer with a leap of 5-04. Greenhills’ Delenn Bauer and Dexter’s Emma Young were 10th (4-08). Dexter’s Emma Hall was 14th (4-08).

In the pole vault, Dexter’s Nicole Bow and Josie Mettes both went 12-feet to finish second. Dexter placed three more in the top 10: Sophia Mettes (sixth, 10-03), Makenzie Stock (ninth, 10-03) and Teaghan Holman (10th, 9-09). Annalisa Shehab and Annissa Sisson both tied for 13th (9-03) for the Dreadnaughts.

In the long jump, Dexter senior Nicole Bow placed first with a leap of 16-03.50. Huron’s Sela Gur-Arie was sixth (15-07.5), Skyline’s Melissa Breiner was seventh (15-07) and Pioneer’s Kayla Rollins was 18th (14-06.50).
