Girls Track & Field: Dexter finishes 14th at Division 1 State Finals

The Pioneer girls’ track and field team ran up 30 points and finished fifth overall at the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals on Saturday at East Kentwood High School. Oak Park finished first with 74 points, just three points ahead of runner-up Detroit Renaissance.

Rockford was third (69 points) and East Kentwood fourth (42). Dexter finished with 13 points to finish 14th and Skyline scored nine points to finish tied for 21st place.

Let’s begin at the top of the pack.

Dexter’s Nicole Bow put a nice bow on her senior season by winning the pole vault. The senior went 11-09 to finish first. Teammate Sophia Mettes was sixth (10-09).

Bow also took 14th in the long jump (16-09.25).

Pioneer’s Zofia Dudek had a tremendous showing as she returned to Ann Arbor with three silver medals. The amazing junior was second in the 1600 meters (4:45.06) and second in the 3200 meters (10:29.71).

Also in the 1600 meters, Pioneer freshman Sarah Forsyth was 10th in 5:03.74. Also in the 3200 meters, Skyline’s Laura O’Brien was 22nd (11:35.52) and Pioneer’s Anna Vogel was 24th (11:45.0).

Pioneer’s 4×800 relay team of Dudek, Forsyth, Lydia Valtadoros and Cookie Baugh finished second in 9:13.77. Skyline’s team of Catrin Koselka, Madeline Nicholas, Zsofia Hull and Lillian Peck placed ninth in 9:24.26.

Skyline sophomore Jaeda Olive was ninth in the 200 meters (25.68) and Skyline junior Zsofia Hull was 18th in the 400 meters (59.46).

Pioneer junior Jayla Johnson was 16th in the 100 hurdles in 15.49. Teammate Gabriella Newman, only a freshman, was 19th in 15.68. Huron’s Kay-Lee McSwain was 26th in 15.92.

In the 300 hurdles, Skyline senior Madeline Nicholas was 19th in 46.74. Newman was 24th (47.19) and Skyline’s Ayanna Bell was 25th (47.28).

Skyline’s foursome of Jaeda Olive, Alexys Wilson, Sydney Cunningham and Felicity Sorenson was seventh in the 4×100 relay in 49.32. The Skyline group of Sorenson, Wilson, Hull and Madeline Nicholas was sixth in 4:00.48.

Newman was third in the high jump at 5-04 for the Pioneers. Huron’s Madison Kieft was eighth (5-04).

In the shot put, Pioneer senior Aderinola Adunbi was 12th (37-02.25) and Skyline’s Janee Faulkner was 22nd (35-04).
