Free  Summer Wellness Group for high school students

Each week, from June 20 to August 15, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea will host a free summer wellness group for high school students.  The group, which will meet Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 p.m. inside the Chelsea District Library (McKune Room 221 S. Main St. in Chelsea), will offer 9th – 12th graders a fun, safe atmosphere to focus on developing healthy and happy lives.  Students will participate in a discussion on factors that contribute to a person’s overall well-being. St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea to attend Manchester Farmers Market,

On Thursday, July 11, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and the Washtenaw County Health Department will attend the Manchester Farmers Market (209 Ann Arbor St. in Manchester) to register participants for this year’s Senior Market Bucks and Senior Project FRESH programs.  These programs were developed to encourage seniors to make healthy food choices.

This summer marks the third year that St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and Washtenaw County Health Department have teamed up to register seniors for these coupon programs in western Washtenaw County.

Coupons are available for Washtenaw County residents 60 years of age and older to purchase local foods at participating farmers markets.  Additional program-specific qualifications may apply.  Senior Project FRESH coupons can be used to purchase unprocessed Michigan-grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs, as well as honey.  Senior Market Bucks can be used to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, cheese, milk, yogurt, meat, poultry, fish, and honey.

The last day to use coupons from either program is October 31, 2019.

Free monthly weight management group

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea will host a free monthly weight management group led by Dietitian Cassy Rivard.  Attendees will learn about weight loss and weight management tips and tricks while receiving support from others.  The group will meet on the second Wednesday of each month, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., inside Private Dining Room A of the hospital (775 S Main St. in Chelsea).
