The Dexter volleyball team heads into the 2019 season on the defensive – but looking for some offense.
“We lost a strong offensive attack game with last seniors class (all hitters and setters),” says Coach Liz Palmer, entering her second year as head coach of the Dreadnaughts. “We have the talent to fill it, but we are looking to become more effective with speed and play calling.”
While some offense graduated, the defense returns to help form a formidable roster. “Our team strengths are passing and defense,” Palmer says. “We have all three defensive specialists returning to our program that were keys to our passing success last season.”
Once the Dreadnaughts come up with an effective offense, they are expecting big things.
“The keys will be finding our confidence in our new offense,” Palmer says. “We are looking at our senior class for leadership and persevering through the challenges we will come up against.”
Dexter had another successful season in 2018. The Dreadnaughts went 31-10-3 overall and won the SEC White Division. They lost in the District finals to a talented Skyline team. .
Top returning players include Eleanor King (Junior Setter); Livvy Mellifont (Junior Defensive Specialist); and Quinn LaFontaine (Senior Pin Hitter).
Top newcomers include Jordan Kless (Junior Pin Hitter) and Hanna Quinn (Sophomore Middle Blocker).
Dexter opens the season at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at a tri-match at Saline.
