Swimming: Dexter splashes off dual-meet season in historic fashion 

The Dexter girls’ swimming and diving team coasted to a dominating 131-55 victory over Milan in a non-league dual meet on Aug. 29. It was the first dual-meet of the season for the Dreadnaughts and what a way to splash things off.

Let’s start on the diving board where a couple Dreadnaughts made impressive showings.

Freshman diver Lily Witte broke the 36-year-old varsity record (six dives) in her first high school meet. Witte took first overall with 278.85 points. Right behind her was teammate and fellow freshman Vivian Kinnard, who recorded the third highest score (six dives) in school history in her first high school dual meet with a score of 258.70. Sophomore Elysa Grossman was third with 190.30 points.

The Dreadnaughts won the opening medley relay. The team of Lauren Witte, Zoe Michos, Emma Sortor and Sam Durrant won with a time of 1 minute, 57.58 seconds.

Charlotte Schultz led a sweep of the 200 free with a time of 2:01.42. Elizabeth Merz was second (2:07.14) and Elizabeth Higgins was third (2:12.65).

Michos was second in the 200 IM with a time of 34.33 with Witte third in 2:28.66.

The Dreads went one-two in the 50 free with Hailee Waters (25.63) and Durrant (26.44).

Sorter went second in the butterfly in 1:06.77 with teammate Theresa Rutz in third (1:07.36).

Dexter swept the 100 free: Waters was first (56.72), Holly Durand second (58.78) and Merz third (59.26).

The brooms stayed out for the 500 free as Schultz took first (5:27.42), Laura Walton second (5:43.29) and Higgins third (5:49.87).

The Dreadnaughts also swept the 200 free relay. The team of Durrant, Durand, Waters and Schultz was first in 1:45.35.

Witte, a junior, qualified for the state meet in the 100 backstroke with her second-place time of 1:03.79.

The Dreads took the top three spots in the breaststroke. Michos was first (1:13.98) followed by Natalie Koenn (1:17.65) and Kamille Balcom (1:18.64).

The Dreadnaughts swam second in the 400 free relay. The team of Merz, Durand, Waters and Schultz finished in 3:56.40.
