Come take a “Sleigh Ride” with the Dexter Community Orchestra at one of the area’s most popular holiday events – the DCO’s annual Holiday Concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Dexter High School.
As in past years, the DCO will share the stage with the Dexter High School Orchestra. But this year, there is something new: the recently formed Dexter Community Choir will also perform with the orchestra.
In his first year as music director, Dr. David Schultz has put together a mix of traditional and contemporary music to celebrate the season. You can expect to hear many old favorites, but also some rather unconventional takes on traditional Christmas and Hanukkah tunes, including a Mannheim Steamroller arrangement of “Silent Night.” and a through-the-looking-glass medley of such standards as “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
But if you are a traditionalist when it comes to holiday music, don’t worry – there will be the usual sing-along of favorite carols. And as always, the concert will conclude with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” (which will, for the first time, include the Dexter Community Choir).
This is always a popular concert, so plan to arrive early to get a good seat! Children of all ages are welcome. Admission is free, although donations to offset the orchestra’s expenses are greatly appreciated.
