Dexter Community Band holds its free annual holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, featuring traditional Christmas songs, an audience sing-along — and the best trumpet impression of a horse whinny you will hear all season.
The 3 p.m. event will be held at the Center for Performing Arts in Dexter High School, 2200 North Parker Road, Dexter.
The concert will feature a medley of Irving Berlin music and two other pieces sung by Abbey Herrman (who also plays alto saxophone in the band); Fiona Linn; Austin Chrzanowski; and Johannes Kristinsson. Sleigh rides, wooden soldiers and bells that jingle will also factor into the musical selections.

The band’s Holiday Brass ensemble will perform during the 2 p.m. hour Saturday, Dec.14, at Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor as part of The Lucy Ann Lance Show’s annual “Hometown Christmas Show” on 1290AM.
Dexter Community Band performs four free concerts in the 2019-20 season. After the Dec. 8 performance, upcoming events are:
- Winter Concert — Theme: Caribbean Cruising, March 8, 2020;
- Spring Concert — Theme: The Wild West, May 17, 2020.
Founded in 1982, the Dexter Community Band is comprised of volunteer musicians from the local area. A registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the band performs professional-level symphonic wind music at four free concerts a year.
