Swimming: Dreadnaughts fall to Milan in close race during tri-meet

Dexter hosted a tri-meet on Dec. 19 and the Dreadnaughts had quite the battle with Milan that wasn’t decided until the final race. The Big Reds, one of the many strong swimming programs in the area, held on for a 96-84 win over the Dreadnaughts, the Division 2 defending state champions.

Dexter defeated Lincoln 139-44.

Milan won the opening medley relay in 1:41.79. Dexter’s team of Zach Norris, Stuart Bovich, Paul Schaefer and Tanner Sharp touched a close second in 1:43.33. Dexter’s team of Drew Kemp, Adam Hauser, Daniel Bialowicz and Griffin Bartscht was fourth in 1:52.67.

Dexter went two-three in the 200 free with Leo Varitek (1:51.49) and Luke Sayler (1:53.69). Joe Sharon was sixth (2:06.65) and Lucas Greatorex was seventh (2:13.75).

Norris was second for the Dreads in the 200 IM (2:08.52). Hauser was fourth in 2:16.49.

Sharp, a senior, won the 50 free in 22.48. Freshman Drew Kemp was fourth (23.73).

Dexter sophomore Cole Warren won diving with 232.50 points.

Bovich was second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.62. Bialowicz was fifth in 1:06.62.

Saylor, a senior, won the 100 free in 50.51. Varitek was third in 52.24 and Sharon seventh (58.04).

Dexter also went one-three in the 500 free. Schaefer took first in 4:58.88 and Adam Hauser was third in 5:29.04. Bartscht was fifth in 5:36.15 and Patel seventh (6:18.01).

Dexter (Sharp, Varitek, Sayler and Schaefer) won the 200 free relay in 1:32.87. The Dexter team of Greatorex, Bialowicz, Kemp and Bartscht was fourth in 1:43.58.

The Dreadnaughts went one-two in the backstroke. Norris, a junior, was first in 59.63. Bovich was second in 1:00.27 and Adam Bergen seventh (1:08.10).

Sharp was second in the breaststroke in 1:01.21. Schaefer was fourth (1:06.14) and Griffin Patel was fifth (1:12.30).

Dexter was second in the 400 free relay. The team of Sayler, Varitek, Bovich and Adam Hauser finished in 3:32.70. The team of Sharon, Kemp, Greatorex and Norris was fourth in 3:45.95.
