The Dexter hockey team spent 14 minutes in the penalty box compared to just six for visiting Jackson on Wednesday night at the Vet in Ann Arbor. But despite having the “man advantage” advantage, the Vikings couldn’t slow down the high-flying Dexter Dreadnaughts.
After a 1-1 draw in the opening period, the Dreadnaughts scored a second-period goal, despite four penalties in the period, and added two more in the final period for a 4-1 win over Jackson.
Dexter freshman goalie Caleb Kril was solid in the pipes to earn the victory.
Joey Fracassi opened the scoring for the Dreadnaughts. The junior scored at 13:56 with assists from Nate Kniesteadt and Dylan Hutchinson to make it 1-0. But the Vikings came right back to get the equalizer when Devin Kalis scored with an assist from Aaron Palmer to even things at 1-1.
At 4:42 in the second period, Fracassi netted his second of the night with an assist from Dalton Wright to give Dexter a 2-1 lead.
In the third period, Kniesteadt scored with an assist from Kyle Burke to push the lead to 3-1 at 13:18. With 24.7 seconds left in the game, Dexter senior Brendan Busdeker scored an unassisted goal for the final tally of the night.
The Dreadnaughts, who improved to 8-2 on the season, face off against Lenawee United at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.
