The Dexter boys’ swimming and diving team dropped three close meets against a trio of the top swimming programs in the state on Saturday at Birmingham Groves in a non-league quad-meet. The Dreadnaughts lost 102-83 to Groves, 92-88 to University of Detroit Jesuit and 94-89 to Brother Rice.
Dexter had plenty of fast times and quality results.
In the medley relay, the Dexter team of Drew Kemp, Paul Schaefer, Zach Norris and Tanner Sharp took fourth in 1:43.03. The team of Stuart Bovich, Griffin Patel, Adam Hauser and Lucas Greatorex was ninth in 1:51.94.
In the 200 freestyle, the Dreadnaughts went two-three with Leo Varitek (1:48.82) and Luke Sayler (1:48.97). Joe Sharon was eighth in 1:57.22.
Norris went 2:03.48 to take third place in the IM. Hauser touched ninth in 2:13.24.
Sharp took third in the 50 free with a time 22.00. Kemp was eighth in 23.82.
Dexter sophomore Cole Warren took first in diving with a score of 250.60.
In the butterfly, Bovich was eighth in 1:00.48.
Sayler touched third in the 100 free in 49.43.
The Dreadnaughts had an impressive showing in the 500 free. Schaefer, a senior, took first place with a time of 4:53.93 while Varitek, a junior, was second in 5:03.62. Hauser was fifth in 5:16.53.
Dexter’s 200 free relay team of Kemp, Sharp, Sayler and Varitek took second with a time of 1:31.98.
In the backstroke, Norris was second with a time of 56.04. Bovich was seventh in 1:00.25.
Sharp took second for the Dreadnaughts in the breaststroke with a time of 1:00.59. Schaefer was fourth in 1:03.55.
The Dreadnaughts were second in the 400 free relay as the team of Sayler, Varitek, Norrish and Schaefer touched in 3:22.73. The team of Hauser, Bartscht, Greatorex and Bovich were eighth in 3:49.98.
Dexter had no problems earlier in the week during a dual-meet with Adrian. The Dreads dunked the Maples 128-48.
The Dreadnaughts travel to Saline on Thursday for a quad-meet. The meet starts at 6 p.m.
