While the Dexter girls’ basketball team will take on Chelsea Friday night riding a winning streak, the boys’ team will have to rebound from consecutive losses when they take on the Bulldogs. But there is nothing like a rivalry to get the engine roaring, and the Dreadnaughts have plenty of parts to get to where they want to go.
“It was a tough loss,” Dexter Coach Jason Rushton said following his team’s 53-47 loss at Pinckney on Tuesday night. “We dug ourselves a hole early on, but battled until the end. They shot the ball well and I thought they did a nice job defensively.”
The Pirates jumped out to a 15-8 lead after the first quarter and took a 32-19 advantage into halftime. Dexter scored just seven points in the third quarter and trailed 43-26 after three. But like Rushton said, the Dreadnaughts never gave up and made a nice run in the fourth quarter. They scored 21 points but couldn’t make up the difference.
Dexter junior Colin Parachek scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and also had seven rebounds and four steals. Senior Marco Lucchesi hit three triples and also had 13 points for the Dreadnaughts. Brennan Parachek and Ryan Trinkle each scored six points.
The Dreadnaughts drop to 3-3 in the league and 6-3 overall.
Lincoln is in control in the SEC White with a perfect 5-0 record heading into Tuesday. Dexter, Chelsea (3-2, 7-3 before Tuesday), Ypsilanti and Pinckney are still in contention.
Friday night is another girls-boys doubleheader with the girls tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys.
