In the first round of the Romulus Rumble, the Dreadnaught wrestling team faced one of their toughest challenges of the regular season when they faced off against Westland John Glenn, ranked 10th in the state in Division I.

Although three of Dexter’s wrestlers picked up wins, the team fell, 57-15 to the talented Rockets.

Dexter saw another milestone in the loss, though. Senior Mark Young used his signature cradle and pinned his opponent for his 100th career win to become Dexter’s third wrestler to achieve this milestone this season.

In the second round, the Dreadnaughts faced the host school, Romulus High.  This duel went the other way, with Dexter pinning down a solid 58-21 victory.  In the third round, Dexter dominated again, defeating Milan 54-21.

In the final round of pool wrestling, Dexter faced Southgate Anderson.  Dexter won a close one against the talented Titans which was not clinched until sophomore Eli Yount pinned his opponent in the second to last match.

For the final round of the tournament, teams were matched up with the team with the equivalent record in the other pool. Having only one loss so far, in this crossover, the Dreadnaughts faced Dearborn Heights Crestwood for third place in the tournament. In a scrappy back-and-forth duel that came down to the last match, Dexter came up just short.

This tournament elevated the Dreadnaughts’ duel record to 17-6. In an extremely tough tournament, Senior Jasper Howell went undefeated, racking up a perfect 5-0 record for the day.

The Dreadnaughts head to Chelsea on Thursday to face the Bulldogs. They also will compete in the Grass Lake Invitational on Saturday.
