The Dexter boys’ basketball team won its second straight game on Tuesday with a 54-46 win over host Tecumseh in an SEC White Division match-up.
“It wasn’t pretty, but our guys battled through some internal adversity and overcame the cold/flu bug that’s going around to grind out this win,” said Dexter coach Jason Rushton.
Dexter came out strong, taking a 16-11 lead after the first quarter. But the hosts came back with a strong second quarter, outscoring the Dreadnaughts 14-9 to tie the game at 25-25 at the break.
The Dreads turned up the intensity on the defensive end and held the Indians to just six points in the third quarter. Dexter took a 38-31 lead into the fourth quarter and outscored Tecumseh 16-15 in the final period to hold on for the win.
Dexter had a balanced offensive attack with six players scoring seven or more points in the win.
Cal Bavineau continues to improve each time on the floor and had one of his strongest games of the season. The sophomore had 11 points, including eight in the third quarter, and added seven assists and five steals.
“He is really turning into an elite defender with the ability to pressure the opposing guard full court,” Rushton said of his young point guard.
Bobby Pnacek, Colin Parachek and Aidan Dexter hit two triples apiece and finished with eight points. Parachek also had seven rebounds.
Senior Marco Lucchesi had seven points in the win.
Freshman Brennan Parachek had seven points and six rebounds off the bench. “He turns 15 next week, so plenty of upside to his game,” said Rushton.
Dexter hosts Adrian on Friday as part of a boys-girls varsity doubleheader. The girls tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
