Chelsea’s Jeff Daniels is making an appearance on The History Channel. No, he’s not pawning his Chelsea HS football helmet on Pawn Stars or hitting the road with Mike and Frank. The Chelsea actor and founder of The Purple Rose Theatre Co. will narrate the History Channel’s six-part miniseries on George Washington that debuts on President’s Day weekend.
The program, “Washington,” will air over three nights beginning Sunday, Feb. 16, and continue on Feb. 17 and 18. The miniseries is executive produced by author Doris Kearns Goodwin.
“Washington” will feature a mix of dramatic retellings, with Nicholas Rowe playing Washington, as well as interviews with former President Bill Clinton, Colin Powell and historians Joseph J. Ellis, Annette Gordon-Reed, Jon Meacham, Alan Taylor and others.
The miniseries will examine Washington’s transformation from a young man seeking to rise as a military officer, into a determined revolutionary who led a rag-tag army against the British Empire. Ultimately, Washington would become the reluctant leader of a fledgling new nation and lay the foundation for its eventual emergence as the world’s greatest superpower.
Daniels is no stranger to America’s first president. He starred as George Washington in the historical drama “The Crossing,” a 2000 American made-for-television historical film about George Washington crossing the Delaware River and the Battle of Trenton, directed by Robert Harmon. It was based on the novel of the same name by Howard Fast.
